Prizes for bridal shower games: how many, and what to spend

How many prizes to buy for bridal shower games, three spend bands from published host guidance, and how to set the table so winners can choose.

Buy at least three prizes for each game, plus a spare, because a tie is common. Emmaline Bride says most of the popular bridal shower games will likely have at least three winners for each game, and there is usually a tie. On spend, the same page says you can find most bridal shower game prizes under $10, that most prizes are usually around $2.50 to $5 each, upwards to $10, and maxed out around $15. The Knot keeps a separate group titled Bridal Shower Prizes Under $10, which matches that low band, and also lists much larger splurge items. Treat the splurge list as optional, not as the ordinary prize.

How many to buy

Count winners, not games. If a round can finish with three people tied, three prizes is the floor and a fourth is the spare Emmaline's tie note implies. A door prize is extra, and it is not one clock. Emmaline Bride awards the closest-guess jar at the end of the shower, announces a sticker under a chair once guests have arrived and selected a chair, and hands scratch-off tickets at the greeting so that winner is instant.

Skip a prize for a round that has no winner. Advice cards and a mad-lib reading are keepsakes, not contests. The game list on bridal shower games marks which rounds have a winner and which do not.

Three spend bands

These bands are Emmaline's stated range, not a national average. There is no survey behind them on the pages opened for this guide.

Around $2.50 to $5. This is the cluster Emmaline calls usual. It covers the small useful things on that page: fun pens, mini notebooks, mini soaps, and a seed packet. Buy this band in bulk so every winner, including a tie, gets something of the same weight. Guests notice when first place is a basket and third place is a single pen.

Under $10, up to $10. Emmaline's next step, and the band The Knot titles Under $10. A $5 or $10 gift card sits here. Emmaline names Target, Amazon, Starbucks, and a local cafe or Etsy card as the kind of small card that still feels like a win. A mini candle and a set of dish towels also sit in this practical group on that page.

Up to about $15, for one standout. Emmaline maxes the ordinary prize around $15. Use that ceiling for a single door prize or for one first-place pick, not for every line on a bingo card. The Knot's prize feature also shows much higher tagged prices on splurge items. Those are a different purchase. They are not required to make a purse raid feel fair.

What to put on the table

Emmaline Bride groups prizes guests actually take home:

Wrap some and leave some open. Emmaline says wrapping is optional: fully wrapped, unwrapped, or half and half all work. Open items let a winner see what they are choosing. Wrapped ones add a bit of suspense for the door prize.

Set the table near the back of the room, easy to see. Emmaline's preferred handoff is to invite the winner up to choose, rather than assigning a prize at the seat. That only works if the items are similar in the band you promised. If one object is clearly the nicest, say at the start that the door-prize winner chooses first, then game winners choose from what remains.

A count for one shower (illustrative)

These figures are invented for one afternoon, so you can see the arithmetic. Two games with winners, plus a door prize. Game one can have three winners. Game two can have three winners and a tie, so four prizes. The door prize is one more. That is eight prizes on the table: six from the $2.50 to $5 band and two from the under-$10 band, one of them held back as the door prize. A $15 item is skipped because the host's remaining cash is for food. Nothing in this count is a quote from a catalog or a survey.

What not to buy

Match the room. A lingerie-shaped prize is a poor fit if grandparents are playing the same round. A candle is a poor fit if the venue bans open flame later, so hand over an unlit candle and say so. Cash in an envelope is fine as a gift card, and Emmaline treats a small card as enough. A prize that needs a size, such as a robe, leaves someone out unless you know the winner in advance. You will not.

If the honoree asked for a quiet party, a full prize table can make the games feel mandatory. One door prize, chosen by a chair sticker, still thanks people for coming. The rest of the budget can stay in the meal.

If the games are the printed piece

Hosts who want the cards printed can use the Bridal Shower Games download. Inside Bridal shower bingo are 30 distinct word boards in one-up and two-up editions and 40 cut caller pieces, plus a separate no-cut private call log, and the player card is 184 × 125 mm in both one-up and two-up layouts. Bridal shower bingo hosts a word-call bingo round or separate observed-gift prediction game. Know the bride game, in the same download, hosts a bride-confirmed social quiz with fair common scoring, ties and corrections. A limit on Bridal shower bingo: no universal group-size or enjoyment guarantee.
